Christian Posta headlines ATO Spacewalk 2023

The Meetup group All Things Open (ATO) kicked off 2023 with their annual Spacewalk event in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, with Solo.io’s very own Global Field CTO Christian Posta as the headliner. This Spacewalk event is a precursor to the number of events put on throughout the year by the ATO group and culminating with the ATO conference in the fall.

An impressive crowd of around 100 technologists from around the Raleigh area came out to listen to Christian. He began his presentation by covering the basics of Istio and how it comes together to solve business and operational challenges.

Christian also gave an introduction to Istio Ambient Mesh, the future sidecarless data plane for Istio, and explored some common use cases for service mesh. He also reviewed case studies and dug into the innovation happening in this space. 

ATO Spacewalk 2023

Meetups like the ATO Spacewalk 2023 offer networking opportunities and a chance for participants to get their hands on some great swag. In this case, participants also had a chance to snag a copy of two of Christian’s books.

The location for the Spacewalk was extra special this year – Marbles IMAX Theater. Raleigh’s only certified giant screen served as a compelling backdrop to Christian’s presentation on The Future of Service Mesh.

After the event, Christian signed copies of his books – Istio Ambient Explained (O’Reilly) and Istio in Action from Manning. Afterwards, Christian reported that many participants expressed interest in the prospect of a sidecarless service mesh, including some who were less familiar with service mesh before the presentation.
