We are looking for an education-focused, hands-on technical content team member to help develop, manage, and maintain programs and courses at Solo Academy,’s developer-focused learning program. Solo Academy is growing rapidly and we’re looking for someone to help drive our live workshop and on-demand eLearning education components into the next phase of scale. You would be the trusted source of industry best practices for eLearning as well as our in-house expert on tracking and managing the technical content within Solo Academy in addition to other technical marketing assets.

Reporting to the Head of Community & Education, this work will have a direct impact on the success of Solo Academy, our student community, and our technical marketing and DevRel efforts. You will have the opportunity to help drive the direction and content of this industry-leading technical education.

What you will do

  • On-demand programs & content development: Transform complex information into clear, effective multimedia instruction through the use of text and visuals (including images, infographics, audio, video, whiteboarding, webinars, etc.). Help to identify potential Solo Academy program evolutions, course catalog additions, create new course content (written and video – the code for each course will be written by another team member as needed in Instruqt), and work with our external team members to create graphics and other educational assets for each on-demand course in Skilljar. Manage the production of high-quality video, multimedia, and graphic materials to support the delivery of instruction. You will collaborate with staff, students, and occasionally customers to plan, script, and deliver instructionally and aesthetically sound courses and coursework.
  • On-demand content maintenance & format improvements: Create and maintain a schedule or program to keep the on-demand educational materials up to date and leading edge. Open source projects like Istio can change fast, and we may need fast turnarounds to keep our course catalog up to date for people enrolled in our courses. Solo Academy offers hands-on training and certification courses like no others in our space, and we are constantly working to improve the content and experience of our users.
  • QA testing: Lead quality assurance and testing of each course (including integrations with Credly, our system for creating badges for our certification courses) to ensure the highest quality educational content in the industry.
  • Technical content & writing: As a technical content writer, much of the information you build for Solo Academy will translate into other digital assets and channels, and we expect to work with you in order to identify this information and socialize it within the marketing team or into other teams for company-wide use, for example, translating coursework into promotional material to build the Solo Academy audience.
  • Education program promotion: Help to identify appropriate channels on which to promote Solo Academy and its contents, work to develop communications about course content, and help advocate for technical education through our communities. This could include writing copy for and running promotional videos, posts about the programs, live workshops promotions, webinars, and more.
  • Course reporting & data analysis: Work with the marketing team to report on and analyze Solo Academy engagement and success in order to identify new opportunities for iteration and improvements over time. You will need a basic understanding of statistics and reporting, and will likely use Survey Monkey and other tools in order to gather feedback on Solo Academy courses and user experience. We may also use A/B testing or other means to help determine the direction of our courses.
